BE AWESOME. FOR MEES.
Okay Tumblr, this is your chance to do something really awesome. The young man in the photo there is called Mees, he’s almost 2 years old, he lives in the Netherlands and he has cancer.
Mees has been so brave up to now, he has a tumour that has grown from his bottom, through his pelvis to his tummy. Mees’ parents, Jan and Inge, are an amazing couple, full of positivity and love. Mees has been having treatment at his local hospital for 2 months, Mees calls it his ‘second home’, his bed on wheels is a ‘car bed’ and all the tubes and wires attached to him are antennae, Mees likes to play robots.
Things have gotten serious, and now Mees, Jan and Inge need to travel to the Florida Proton Institute in Jacksonville, Fl, USA for radiation treatment. Medical insurance is covering a lot of expenses but we (that’s all of us Tumblr, for Mees) have to raise another 30,000 Euros to cover the rest and ensure that both Jan and Inge can travel with Mees.
Mees’ father, Jan, is a member of our illustration collective The Mighty Pencil, so we have come together and launched a set of feelgood greetings cards, inspired by Mees, Jan and Inge. You can buy a pack of cards and, if you’re able, add a further donation to your order on our website.

Updated my showreel too with some new bits I’ve made recently. Check it out!! Feel free to like it and share it and even print it off second by second and take it to bed and cuddle it if you want to!
Been updating my Behance profile in the last few days, have completely neglected it for the last year, or two. Decided to start using it again as it’s a clean, simple, attractive portfolio to show your work, but also for the networking. It’s used by millions of creative people and there must be some opportunity to meet (virtually, or even in real life) some of those great peopl and collaborate on stuff. We’ll see. I’m going to keep it updated more regularly and start to follow/ contact some other people/ companies I see that I like on there, and we’ll see what happens. If you’re on there, hit me up! - www.behance.net/karldoran
Lately I am stuck , I have been a freelance illustrator/ animator and lately director for 4 years now. I am currently at a cross roads as to whether I should
A) carry on
B) travel and work
C) set up a new company
D) - find something new to doHere are some pros
- you can do what you want…
Here’s those two album cover designs I did for Secret 7’s. Drake the Fox, as I have come to know him, got quite a few votes on the Talent House site, the other one not so much. The fox one is for the Nick Drake track Rider on the Wheel, the scary face one for Laura Marling’s Beast. Both great tracks, go have a listen of you’ve got a minute. Here’s some of the winners - http://www.talenthouse.com/design-for-nick-drake-secret-7#submissions - Some great stuff, and for a great cause.
Been experimenting with a colourful/ psychedelic animated Gif version of my typographic logo. What do you think? Bit much?
FEMINAZI STOLE MY ICE CREAM SHIRTS AVAILABLE NOW!
This shirt is inspired by this video about misogyny and anti-woman hysterics. It is also inspired by the alarming number of you who marched to my door and demanded it. You were loud. You woke the neighbors.
We’ll be donating 25% of the profits to Planned Parenthood, who were there when my wife and I needed them. They were wonderful and it sucked to have to walk past security checkpoints that have to be there because of domestic terrorism that we don’t call terrorism. And Planned Parenthood is always having their funding threatened or fucked with, so it seemed a good place to funnel some money.
These shirts are screenprinted by my long-time friends at Commonwealth Press in the south side of Pittsburgh. Just the best people. Printed on Tultex shirts because fuck American Apparel for real. And of COURSE there is international shipping.
We’ll be doing preorders for a couple of weeks and then your shirt will be dispatched with a high-five and a hug.

Made this a few weeks ago for an interview I had at Manchester United to design the graphics for the perimeter boards at Old Trafford. They said they liked it. But they mustn’t have like me because they didn’t give me the job. It’s based on the screen size of the perimeter display boards and is supposed to be a FUN, but serious, animation to explain why they really should give me the job. Didn’t work.
Made this last week as a sample video for MAG (Manchester Airport Group) a client of BJL in town. It’s a 60 second animation based on what goes on in the airports in one day.
This year I’ve been on a bit of a quest to improve my figurative drawing, most of my own illustration work (commercial and personal) usually involves landscapes and animals, so it’s an area I’ve not really moved around in much before. So I asked for some tips from a few of my insanely talented…
Watch this while you still can. Amazing animated music video from one of my favourite animators at the moment. It’s brilliant. Watch it.
Hello. I am the director/animator guy of Toh Kay’s With Any Sort Of Certainty video. You may have seen it. In fact, 55+k of you did in the first 48 hours. That is until the fine folks at (asshat record label) issued a takedown complaint to Youtube and Vimeo, for Tomas’ own original song and my own original animation. They took it off of my Vimeo account. That felt… weird. At this point, (asshat record label) is working their hardest to make sure the video goes away, possibly for good. The issues between Tomas and (asshat record label) go back through many acrimonious years, and I just happened to have my own work dragged into it by a record label trying to prove a point. They have lawyers. I do not. So I can’t fight them and it may take a long time for it to get ironed out enough that I can repost it again.
I worked very hard on this video. It means a lot to me. And I was so pleased and gratified to know that it meant a lot to some of you who saw it. Thanks so much for your emails and stuff. You guys are great. Both Tomas and I will have the video on our sites, but who knows how long that will last. And we both want as many people to see/hear it as possible, and to have it readily available for new people to see and hopefully connect with and enjoy.
And so, here is a download link for the full 1920x1080 video. It should be good for about 2 weeks. Enjoy it. Upload it anywhere and everywhere. Remix it. Torrent it. Blog it. Tumblr it. Tweet it. Steal it. Give it. Um… print it out and post it on walls? I don’t know. Whatever the spirit moves you to do.
Neither of us want to see this thing we’ve worked on go away. You can’t ever really erase something from the internet, especially music and art. It just gets out there, that’s what’s so great about it. It lasts. And with your help it should only be a quick and easy Google search away from anyone who wants to see it.
Thanks so much for caring. Go and buy some stuff directly from Tomas and support him during this fucked up situation. And if you are so inclined, check out my work and my prints here.
Thanks!
EDIT - YOU GUYS ARE FANTASTIC. With Any Sort Of Certainty is available several times over in a few different places now. This is the one I’m linking to at the moment. So if you haven’t seen it and don’t want to download, click and enjoy!
My latest hobby is trying to come up with logos for people who didn’t have one, or haven’t asked for one… heh heh.
